October 19 through November 8, Pacific Edge Gallery in Laguna Beach, California, presents the exhibition Tapestries of Travel featuring paintings of Asia and Europe by Bryan Mark Taylor and Jennifer McChristian. The award-winning artists will showcase their new oils from recent painting trips, highlighting the people, places and cultures of the locales they’ve visited.
“Throughout my career I have drawn inspiration from my world travels,” says McChristian. “For some, travel is a luxury; for others, a tedious task. For me, travel is a joy and an opportunity to explore new ways of thinking and seeing, a way to expand my viewpoint and free myself from the myopia which a stationary existence can often produce. My goal with traveling has always been to grow and expand my paradigm to view the world through a more empathetic lens. In a time of divisiveness I hope to bring a more unified perspective on the human condition by finding underlying universal themes beneath diverse cultural exteriors and bring that to light.”
Taylor’s paintings for the show depict locations all over the world. “Traveling and painting has been a constant source of renewal and inspiration for me and I find my mind and heart open to new ideas and experiences from the diverse cultures I visit,” he says. “Through traveling and painting, I find I have a broader palette of ideas, textures, colors and compositions to choose from.”
Tapestries of Travel will kick off with a reception for the artists on opening night from 4 to 8 p.m. —
