Nonprofit contemporary gallery Artspace in Richmond, Virginia, holds a set of three solo exhibitions for local artists Elaine Harris, Mona Dworkin and Carl Patow running February 25 through March 19. The series focuses on the artists’ concerns regarding the challenges currently facing their communities, country and planet. An opening reception takes place February 25 from 6 to 9 p.m., along with artist talks the following day at 2 p.m.

Positive Fragmentation
The National Museum of Women in the Arts hosts Positive Fragmentation, with works drawn from the collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and His Family Foundation. The exhibition features more than 100 works by 21 contemporary women artists who incorporate fragmented elements into their artwork, including paints, etchings, photographs and various three-dimensional components. These works use the concept of fragmentation to convey both aesthetic and meaning. The show will be on view at the American University Museum at the Katzen Arts Center in Washington, D.C., through May 22.

Joint acquisition
The Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo, New York, and the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, D.C., have jointly acquired an immersive installation by Yayoi Kusama titled Infinity Mirrored Room—My Heart Is Dancing into the Universe. The upcoming spring exhibition One with Eternity: Yayoi Kusama in the Hirshhorn Collection at the Hirshorn will showcase this ambitious project for the first time on the East Coast. Kusama’s installation takes visitors through a room lined on all six sides with reflective surfaces and filled with colorful paper lanterns covered by her signature polka dots. Dates for the spring show are to be determined.

Encounters: Dean Mitchell
The artwork of master watercolorist Dean Mitchell is showcased in an exhibition currently on view at the Huntsville Museum of Art in Huntsville, Alabama. Encounters: Dean Mitchell is presented by the museum’s Black History Month Committee and features Mitchell’s portraits, landscapes and still lifes, many of which engage with Black identity. The show runs through March 20 in the museum’s Grisham Gallery. —
