Atlanta Art Fair | 10/3-10/6 | Atlanta, GA

Regional Flare

The inaugural Atlanta Art Fair aims to burgeon the city’s vibrant contemporary art scene.

This fall more than 50 local, national and international galleries will dazzle the Big Peach during the first-ever Atlanta Art Fair.Organized by Art Market Productions in collaboration with Intersect Art and Design, the four-day fair will be primarily a regionally-driven show, focusing on gallery presentations, public programming and creative partnerships that support Atlanta as a major art hub in the American South.

“Visual arts have historically taken a backseat to the booming music, sports and entertainment industries in the city. In recent years, however, we’ve also seen new galleries set up shop and the arts community really galvanize behind creating new opportunities for artists. As a result, there’s an inspiring amount of collaboration and collectors have also taken note,” says fair director Kelly Freeman.

“We’re prioritizing a community-centric approach to the development of the fair, focusing on empowering the local art community by celebrating its unique history and enhancing its existing community of artists, galleries, institutions, collectors and cultural events,” Freeman continues. “To do this, we look forward to showcasing regional galleries at the fair amongst other national and international galleries, presenting a unique microcosm of the American South and connecting galleries from mainstream arts hubs to regional players.”

Among the programming visitors can experience during the Atlanta Art Fair is a group exhibition featuring five upcoming Georgia-based artists curated by local guest curator Lauren Jackson Harris. In addition, a presentation of internationally renowned Atlanta-based artists Navin Norling and Pam Longobardi, who both specialize in creating art from found objects, will be organized by Atlanta-based curator Karen Comer Lowe. The fair’s artistic director, Nato Thompson, is organizing a variety of large-scale projects as well.

“The exhibitors will feature a blend of emerging and established galleries, promising fresh and progressive programming that showcases both local artists and internationally renowned names, including Jeffrey Gibson, whose work is currently on view at the Venice Biennale,” Freeman adds. “Our gallery booths will be accompanied by presentations staged by leading cultural partners. Highlights include Art Papers, Atlanta History Center, Dashboard Co-Op, Spruill Center for the Arts, Millennium Gate Museum and Georgia Tech.”
