Georgia Color Plein Air | 10/16-10/20 | Savannah, GA

Local Color

The annual plein air painting event highlighting Georgia-based artists returns to Savannah this October.

The 6th annual Georgia Color Plein Air will take place October 16 to 20, bringing together 30 talented plein air painters who call Georgia home. Organized by Olmsted Arts, this year’s event will see artists hailing from all across the Peach State, including Savannah, Atlanta, St. Simons, Hiawassee, Athens, Snellville and more.

Artists who were juried into the upcoming event include Keith Burgess, Donna R. Biggee, Ed Cahill, Laura Floyd, Warren Griffin and Julia Kamenskikh, to name a few.

Ed Cahill, Poplars at Sunset, oil on canvas, 50 x 31". From Georgia Color Plein Air 2023.

The Georgia Color Exhibition Gallery (location to be announced) will open to the public on Thursday, October 17, running daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. through October 20. Georgia Color artists will be bringing paintings from home in order to create a robust gallery of more than 200 works available for collectors to view and purchase. And of course as a plein air event, the artists are also painting on location in and around Savannah. New original works of art will be added to the gallery each day, giving collectors the opportunity to snag new gems while the paint is still drying.

Donna R. Biggee, October Reflections, oil on canvas, 12 x 24". From Georgia Color Plein Air 2023.

A number of art demonstrations and discussions will be held throughout the event as well, with participating artists sharing their knowledge, techniques and creative processes. Not to be missed is the Sunset/Nocturne PaintQuick, which takes place on Friday, October 18. Artists are put to the test of time as they challenge themselves to complete a painting in just two hours. This event is open to everyone—professionals and beginners alike—with awards presented to standout pieces.

The evening of October 17 is the ticketed opening reception, in which collectors can meet directly with the artists, get a sneak peek of new works and enjoy light food and libations.

Keith Burgess, Morning in Madison, oil on linen paper, 12 x 16". From Georgia Color Plein Air 2023.

All participating Georgia Color artists will hold and conceal two paintings created during the event to be placed into the competition. An Awards and Collectors Celebration will be held at the Exhibition Gallery on the evening of Saturday, October 19. VIP entry starts at 5:30 p.m., and all other ticket holders may enter at 6 p.m. —
