Highlights of the sales and connections achieved from the pages of American Art Collector

Principle Gallery and artist Gilbert Gorski celebrate the sale of four works to a single collector.

“We had a collector in Seattle named Nina Cindrich contact us on November 30, 2022, interested in the painting, Sunrise Fanfare by Gilbert Gorski and other complementary works of his,” shares gallery assistant, Sierra Koker. “She had a 12-feet-long wall that she wanted to fill with his works. With her being so far away, we created several mock-ups to give her an idea of which works would be able to occupy the big space.” The gallery determined that the collector could accommodate four works, so she purchased: Sunrise Fanfare, Bravissimo, Eleganzia and Arettia. Bravissimo and Arietta are featured here. Gilbert Gorski’s tranquil, “pixelist” landscapes were featured in the September 2022 issue.

“Gorski’s serene work has the scent of fresh air and the sound of leaves crunching underfoot,” continues Koker. “The patience, skill and restraint required to complete such intricate paintings attest to his ability and cultivate a distinguished style.”

Joseph Zbukvic sells piece through Principle Gallery after a show preview in American Art Collector.

Merci Monsieur Monet by Joseph Zbukvic was purchased by a collector in New York City named John Jernigan,” shares gallery assistant director, Taylor Chauncey. “The piece was featured in Joseph’s solo exhibition in October 2022 and John contacted us via our website to purchase the work on October 24. This was the first piece John purchased from us.

“I’m so often impressed by his work, but the moment I laid eyes on Merci Monsieur Monet, I was speechless,” says Chauncey. “It was a painting that instantly felt special—it was a showstopper. The best part about it was yes, the subject matter is one best attributed to Oscar-Claude Monet, but it didn’t feel as though it was trying to be a Monet, just simply an homage.”

A collector finds a favorite artist in Lucia Heffernan through Rehs Contemporary.
“Lucia Heffernan is one of our most sought-after artists—oftentimes, works sell as soon as they arrive,” says gallery director Lance Rehs. The artist's works of magical realism have been featured in these pages. “This particular piece, The Optimist, was snatched up by an online buyer who was making his first purchase from us. Lucia’s works have a way of appealing to a broad audience, but as you might guess, this one resonated with a certain ilk—someone working in the financial world,” he continues. “And clearly he was a big fan of the piece as he ended up purchasing two more paintings by Lucia just a couple of weeks later!”

Heffernan, who endeavors to give animals a voice and a personality, while making light of the uniquely human existence, adds, “I love that Rehs is a family-owned gallery. They’re great to work with and do a really nice job promoting their artists. As for the lucky collector of this painting, may the markets swing in your favor!” —
