The winners and finalists of the Art Renewal Center’s 16th International ARC Salon Competition have been announced. The ARC received over 5,400 entries from 75 countries, with 2,152 works selected as semi-finalists, and 1,273 as the finalists. Both finalists and semi-finalists have been published on the ARC website and all finalists and award winners will be published in the ARC Salon Book, International Realism. This year, all winners and honorable mentions will also be included in the Lunar Codex, “The Polaris Collection.” Among the many awards within the 16th International ARC Salon Competition are the 11 first place category winners: Keiichiro Kono (Figurative Category), Chanel Cha (Portrait Category), Arantza Sestayo (Imaginative Realism Category), Narelle Zeller (Still Life Category), Jake Gaedtke (Landscape Category), César Orrico (Sculpture Category), Shane Wolf (Drawing Category), Parsoua Mahtash (Animal Category), Louis Szapary (Fully From Life Category), Jim McVicker (Plein Air Category) and Kajal Patel, 19-year-old winner of the Teens Category. The 16th International ARC Salon Exhibition, consisting of around 100 works from the International ARC Salon Competition, opens at Sotheby’s in New York from July 14 to 24, 2023, where an official award ceremony will be held.

Blue Rain Gallery Opens New Location
Blue Rain Gallery has recently opened a new space in Durango, Colorado, with the ushering in of the New  Year. With a flagship location in the heart of historic Santa Fe, New Mexico, Blue Rain Gallery is known for highlighting contemporary artists of diverse backgrounds working in a  variety of mediums including paintings, bronze and glass sculpture, pottery, kachinas and  jewelry. Artists of note include Preston Singletary, Jim Vogel, Doug West, Erin Currier, Vivian Wang, Chris Pappan, Matthew Sievers and Jody Naranjo. The city of Durango has long been in the sights of Blue Rain Gallery owner Leroy Garcia. “We hope to add to the existing art community in Durango,” says Denise Phetteplace, Blue Rain Gallery executive director. “We are ambitious in our vision and committed to producing great experiences for visitors to our gallery. It’s important that the new location feels like a boutique version of the experience you would have while visiting Blue Rain Gallery in Santa Fe.”

Freeman’s American Art and Pennsylvania Impressionists sale, held on Sunday, December 4, set new auction records for numerous artists. Among these was esteemed realist painter Bo Bartlett for his monumental 2015 oil painting The Promised Land, which led the sale at a spectacular $352,800. The piece, which depicts a man and two women in a simple, white rowboat navigating tumultuous seas, had a presale estimate of $200,000 to $300,000. —
