January 2022 Edition

Art Show / Fair Previews

Start of the Season

LA Art Show returns this January to kick off the Los Angeles art season.

Just six months after its 2021 event was held at the end of July, LA Art Show returns to the Los Angeles Convention Center for its 2022 edition from January 19 through 23. The fair, considered one of the most comprehensive international art fairs, will help kick off the Los Angeles art season as it returns to its traditional event dates. The July 2021 LA Art Show. Photo by Birdman Photos.Opening the fair is the premiere party on January 19 from 7 to 11 p.m. where VIPs can browse and purchase artwork before the show opens to the public. They will be treated to libations and food, while the event will not only celebrate the art on view but also its beneficiary, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, which will receive 15 percent of all ticket proceeds.

Many galleries from around the world will be participating in the event including Arcadia Contemporary, Rehs Contemporary, Abend Gallery, Gallery 1261, Rebecca Hossack Art Gallery, Mizuma Art Gallery, Neue Kunst Gallery and Pan American Art Project, to name a few.José Vergara, Woman in Gold, oil on canvas, 26 x 26". At the Arcadia Contemporary booth, collectors will find an array of contemporary realism by some of the leading artists worldwide. Sister galleries Abend Gallery and Gallery 1261, out of Denver, will have a larger display than the 2021 event. Abend will showcase art by over 30 artists, as well as an installation of its 5x5 Project that includes 5-by-5-inch works, while 1261 will show work by artists such as Gregory Block, Quang Ho, Daniel Sprick, Pamela Wilson and Vincent Xeus.Vadim Dolgov, Tram in the City, acrylic on canvas, 48 x 48". “As one of the show’s founding members and the only gallery that participated in every edition, we are pleased to exhibit again at the fair,” says Howard L. Rehs, owner of Rehs Contemporary and Rehs Galleries, Inc. “This year we will be dividing our booth into a series of rooms, each of which will focus on a particular artist, theme or style. The center room will be devoted to art from the 19th and 20th centuries, including paintings by Orville Bulman, Léon Perrault, Guy Wiggins, Edouard Cortès, Adolphe Lesrel, Henry Scott and Maurice de Vlaminck.” The gallery’s contemporary works will include art from Ben Bauer and Lucia Heffernan.Laurence Jones, Night Pool (Pink), acrylic and ink on linen, 27½ x 235/8". The fair will have many lectures and presentations that guests can enjoy. The anticipated return of DIVERSEartLA will have an ecological lens. As the fair explains, “Curated by Marisa Caichiolo, this year’s edition will examine not just how the environment is represented in art, but how humanity’s place in the world is depicted. This exhibition will open up an important dialogue about the Earth’s past, present and future, uniting the community around discussions of the global climate crisis and potential solutions.”

American Art Collector is thrilled to return as a media sponsor of the fair. For complete information on purchasing tickets and general admission hours, visit the fair website. —
