Birds in Art elevates avian artwork in an exhibition of more than 100 artists hailing from across the world.

Held at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum in Wisconsin, this year’s Birds in Art exhibition features superb works of avian art by 113 artists from around the world. The event, which is currently in its 46th year, showcases the grace, beauty and allure of our feathered friends through paintings, sculptures and graphics created within the last three years.Vida Pearson, Carmine Bee-eaters, hand colored linocut, 18½ x 22½"

“Art and nature are synonymous to me. I find our relationship with the environment to be the highest form of self-expression,” says Alaska-based artist Sara Wolman, whose piece Desert and the Roadrunner is in the 2021 show. “There’s a mastery of design within nature, little nuances of patterns and relationships in every leaf and feather…In my piece Desert and the Roadrunner, I chose to represent a bird from a land foreign to me, a roadrunner from the desert Southwest.” She continues, “I channel color into a digital format in ways that are accessible to people all over the world. I want everyone to pause and look at birds outside their windows. Birds represent so much that connects us. Their freedom in flight and their beauty in song are things we craned our necks to see from the dawn of humanity.”Sara Wolman, Desert and the Roadrunner, digital multimedia print on archival paper, 48 x 48"Birds in Art 2021 will be on view September 11 through November 28. Exhibition opening festivities will be modified with COVID-19 precautions. —
