Plein air artist Kim Lordier captures the beauty of Catalina Island in California.

The Wild Side
The 11th annual Catalina: The Wild Side Art Show, hosted by the Catalina Island Conservancy, takes place this November 7. This year’s show will be held in-person at Newport Harbor Yacht Club in Newport Beach, California, with an additional online component and features 10 esteemed plein air artists who will display their interpretations of Catalina’s rugged wildlands and scenic beauty. Artists include John Budicin, Marica Burtt, Terri Ford, Wyllis Heaton, Debra Huse, Paul Kratter, Tia Kratter, Shanna Kunz, Kim Lordier and Jim McVicker. Proceeds from the painting sales support the Conservancy’s conservation, education and recreation programs.

Crystal Bridge sat 10
Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art celebrates its 10th anniversary with the exhibition Crystal Bridges at 10, currently on view through September 27. The exhibition, which celebrates Crystal Bridges’ collection and the museum community, surveys a wide time period in American art, including 19th- and 20th-century artists and artists working today. Primarily drawing from the museum’s collection, the exhibition includes hundreds of objects organized into installations, thematic galleries and unexpected juxtapositions.

On view through September 19, Limitless! Five Women Reshape Contemporary Art features the works of five trailblazing artists who take the concept of working “outside the box” to an entirely new level. Hosted by the McNay Art Museum in San Antonio, Texas, the exhibition experience will have innovative installations in a range of mediums by artists Martine Gutierrez, Letitia Huckaby, Yayoi Kusama, Sandy Skoglund and Jennifer Steinkamp.

Commemorating the 25th anniversary of the acclaimed Picturing the South photography series, the High Museum of Art in Atlanta holds a major exhibition showcasing all of the commissions together for the first time. The project began in 1996 when the High Museum commissioned photographers from across the world to engage with and explore the American South’s rich social and geographic landscape. Currently, 16 artists have taken part in the initiative, a collection that has grown to more than 250 photographs. Picturing the South: 25 will be on view from November 5, 2021, to February 6, 2022. —
