The Portrait Society of America

This year, perhaps more than any other in our 22-year history, the Portrait Society of America’s commitment to providing access to information, mentorship and educational opportunities for artists feels paramount. At a time when we are all searching for moments of deeper connection and occasions for meaningful growth, the Portrait Society strives to provide networking opportunities for that growth and connection. The much-anticipated Face-Off event showcases a wide variety of instruction, style and techniques. The Online Webinar in August will also feature a Face-Off with Anna Rose Bain, Quang Ho, Daniel Sprick and Adrienne Stein.

Our annual Cecilia Beaux Forum meeting provides an atmosphere of teaching and a space for sharing knowledge with fellow artists. Join today to share in the valuable resources offered through the CBF mentorship program and literature committees.

Normally at this time of year, I would be sharing details from another successful annual conference. I would be thanking our faculty artists for lending their incredible talents and celebrating the ways that we were able to provide a welcoming atmosphere, filled with opportunities for learning and inspiration. Instead, like many educational programming, we have switched things up and are looking forward with excitement to our very first digital The Art of the Portrait conference.

Gathering together so many artists in person each spring is always such a joyous event. However, with today’s travel restrictions, we are moving to an online format, August 27 to 30. Our faculty and schedule are set and through live webinar format, this year promises to provide unparalleled access to artists all over the world, including being counted as part of an attempt to set the Guinness World Record for ‘Largest Online Figure Drawing Lesson’ with Robert Liberace. Each year our programming features internationally known faculty, pertinent topics, demonstrations and opportunities for live drawing. The Art of the Portrait quarterly journal features 20 pages of educational content, technical advice, step by step articles and upcoming events and programs.

This year’s offerings will provide fresh ways to connect, stay engaged and deliver meaningful online experiences. We hope you will join us for this new way of learning!

In addition to The Art of the Portrait conference, the Portrait Society works all year to educate, promote and support the traditions of fine art portraiture and figurative works. Contact us today by calling (877) 772-4321 (toll-free) or emailing info@portraitsociety.org for information on membership and programs.

We invite you to join today, as our members enjoy a variety of benefits, including:

  • Variety of educational programs and DVDs
  • Complimentary subscription to The Art of the Portrait quarterly journal
  • Complimentary subscription to International Artist magazine
  • Member E-News with info on upcoming events and advice from professional artists
  • Access to a toll-free artist hotline for questions on technique, aesthetic and marketing
  • Local support and networking through the State Ambassador Outreach program

This moment in history has given us the opportunity to reflect on our values and priorities with newfound clarity. We have had to step away from the people and places that are most important to us, and in distancing ourselves, we come together with a fresh understanding of the profound meaning this community brings to our lives. I hope you will join us for what promises to be an exciting and inspirational year that, even though distant, draws us closer to one another.  —
