In Carousel, Nicolas Martin depicts one of his favorite subjects: the Carousel of Honfleur in France. “The carousel is an important element of the city and I wanted to represent it in an authentic way bathed in this very interesting light,” says the artist, who had his first studio in Honfleur. “In my painting, the sky and the carousel have similar colors that respond to each other, thus creating a certain osmosis between the two.”
Martin, now living in Canada, painted Carousel for his collaboration with Principle Gallery in Charleston, South Carolina. He says, “This carousel has brought me luck since the beginning of my career and makes the link between France where I was born and raised and North America where I live.” —
