Throughout the month of July, Lotton Gallery in Chicago will shine a spotlight on the world’s creatures with its new exhibition The Animal Kingdom. The show will include a range of works that depict everything from frogs to horses, allowing collectors to find something unique or traditional. Among those with works in the show are Gianni Strino, Jean Lefort, Yana Movchan and Gelena Pavlenko.
Yana Movchan, Sweetness of Life, oil on canvas, 9 x 12"
“I see my mission in life [is] to celebrate generosity of nature around us,” says Movchan, who is known for her highly detailed still lifes and floral scenes that often feature birds and other creatures, such as Sweetness of Life. “Beautiful shapes and colors, transparency of grapes, softness of birds and gentle petals of the rose make me appreciate those little things every day. Especially in this time, we need to reconnect with nature. We need to love it, believe in it and respect it. And it will help us to find the way to happiness and health.”
Gelena Pavlenko, Springlike Warmth, oil on canvas, 12 x 16"
An encounter with a frog inspired Pavlenko’s Springlike Warmth. “When the spring comes, the nature awakens. New flowers pop out and animals walk out of their winter sleep. I was next to a little lake and I saw a frog warming itself up on a rock,” she shares. “Lights from the water and the grass inspired me and I thought that the frog was happy because spring had arrived.”
Strino’s painting Galloping depicts two horses running together. “Horses are a great source of inspiration for me that I love very much,” Strino explains.
Jean Lefort, Fluffy White Dog, oil on canvas, 20 x 14"
Gianni Strino, Galloping, oil on canvas, 16 x 16"“I think that the first painting I painted was just horses. Apart from their extraordinary anatomy is the feeling of freedom that they give me, and that is what I try to give to others when seeing the painting.”
Other works in the show include Lefort’s Fluffy White Dog, which shows a dog up on its hind legs and its personality on display. —
