Artist Focus

Artist Focus: L.HUNT

L.HUNT’s paintings are built for “slow looking.” The artist explains, “I want each piece to create an immediate visual impact, then continue revealing quieter details, visual cues and emotional shifts over time. I strive to create work that encourages reflection and personal interpretation rather than offering a single answer. The value of my work is not only in the finished image, but in the layered process behind it—the sense that every surface carries evidence of thought, experimentation and discovery. I want the artwork to become a point of pause; something that causes the viewer to stop, look closer and begin a conversation.”

L.HUNT, Covered Bridge, acrylic and colored pencil, 20 x 15 in.

L.HUNT’s process combines acrylic paint with intricate colored pencil work layered over the surface. “Vivid color combinations activate the eye, creating a sensory pull that draws the viewer into the image before the finer details begin to reveal themselves,” he says. “The colored pencil slows the viewer down through detail, line and repetition. I often work over textured gesso because the surface itself becomes emotional; it resists, interrupts and holds the artwork in a way that feels alive.”

Light, mood and message guide L.HUNT’s work more than realism. Each piece becomes an experiment in atmosphere, surface and meaning—an invitation for the viewer to return to the work with new discoveries. —
