Blue Rain Gallery will present new oil paintings by Sean Diediker, whose work balances the line between realism and impressionism. With both technical acumen and emotional profundity, he creates sweeping landscapes and massive figurative works that captivate viewers.

The Preponderance of Elsewhere #2, oil on canvas, 60 x 48 in.
This latest body of work represents a significant evolution in Diediker’s process, while remaining true to the themes he’s always explored. “Much of the work explores my personal take on masculine and feminine energies, and the tension and complement between them. Many of the paintings examine grounding versus openness, strength versus grace, endurance versus surrender. A lot of the inspiration simply comes from trying to find new ways to visually communicate those ideas and emotional states through the canvas,” he says.

Autumn Rider, oil on canvas, 48 x 48 in.
“The primary difference is really the application. The themes themselves are very much connected to my overall body of work, but the way the paint is being applied has evolved significantly, and for me, that tells a story in its own way. The newer paintings embrace a greater sense of movement, unpredictability and atmosphere within the process itself. I’ve become more interested in allowing the physicality of the paint and the underpainting to participate in the conversation rather than simply serving the image. In many ways, the application itself has become part of the emotional language of the work.”

Root & Flower, oil on canvas, 60 x 48 in.
