Highlights of the sales and connections achieved from the pages of American Art Collector

Jeanne Rosier Smith, Shimmer, pastel, 18 x 18 in. Courtesy Susan Powell Fine Art, Madison, CT.

Cloudscapes show at Susan Powell Fine Art is a resounding success
Jeanne Rosier Smith’s Shimmer was part of the group exhibition Cloudscapes at Susan Powell Fine Art, a preview of which ran in the April 2026 issue of American Art Collector. Rosier Smith’s piece is one of four works featured in the magazine that sold, in addition to paintings by Peter Bergeron, Paul Beebe and Zufar Bikbov.

“The pastel was among the first works to sell in the exhibition and continued to attract strong admiration throughout the show,” says gallery owner Susan Powell. “The collector purchased it immediately upon seeing it and was drawn to the mystery of light breaking through the clouds, the luminous atmosphere, shimmering reflections on the water and the translucence of the wet sand. He was especially pleased to see the painting he purchased reproduced in the magazine.”

Mary Cornish, The Ferryman (king vulture), oil on Belgian linen, 20 x 16 in.

Two Mary Cornish works sell after appearing in American Art Collector
“Although I have painted other subjects, I am best known for my ‘ugly bird’ paintings, such as California condors and vultures,” explains artist Mary Cornish. The Ferryman was featured in Cornish’s ad in the September 2025 issue. “Shortly thereafter, the buyer contacted me after seeing the ad, and I was able to facilitate a direct sale,” says Cornish. “Your magazine really does create a wonderful space to help collectors, both first time buyers and avid collectors, connect with galleries and individual artists.”

Another piece of Cornish’s was featured in a preview of Leigh Yawkey Woodson Museum’s juried Birds in Art Exhibition in the same issue, and also sold. “A patron contacted me after she and her husband attended the opening and wished to purchase At First Blush,” says Cornish. “The buyers were kind enough to leave the piece with Woodson for display until the end of the exhibition.” —
