A Summer of Collecting

Letter from the Publishers

Welcome to the July issue of American Art Collector! In every issue we focus on the month’s highlights, and this one showcases the expansive art show schedule that July brings. If you are looking for travel, entertainment and great contemporary art you have come to the right place. This is a “sit down with a pen in hand to note where you want to go” kind of issue. Let’s start with Laguna Beach’s Festival of Arts and Pageant of the Masters. Adolfo and I have attended both shows and have judged the festival’s juried Fine Art Show. The art is spectacular, the setting and weather is right out of a Hollywood movie, and the Irvine Bowl is a magical venue for one of the most unique productions in the country. Turn to Page 78 to learn more. Add in Art Santa Fe, the Seattle Art Fair, the Hamptons Fine Art Fair and Intersect Aspen, and you have a reason to visit the mountains, coast or desert. But why choose? Our advice is to attend all of them. These are truly great shows with the best artists and their own distinct appeal. Regional art is reaching a national level as these popular shows pollinate collections across the country. Find the art you like inside this magazine and head to a show in a destination that calls to you! It really is that simple.

Our Art Lover’s Guide takes you through New England, a region where art and history naturally intertwine. Our annual guide spotlights great art, galleries and artists in the region. Creativity flourishes in every corner of this pocket of the East Coast, from celebrated museums and distinguished galleries to charming coastal towns filled with working artists. Whether you’re a seasoned collector or simply seeking inspiration, New England promises a rich cultural journey worth exploring. Let us lead the way beginning on Page 98. This month features three exciting artists as we continue to broaden your art horizons—Lee Price (this month’s cover artist), Carole Feuerman, and Paul Rhymer. If you aren’t familiar with these talented artists yet, you certainly will be after reading about them and exploring their artwork.

Sarah Gianelli’s letter on the next page reflects on our nation’s 250th anniversary and the extraordinary story American artists have told over a quarter millennium. Today, historic and contemporary art are more accessible than ever. Add in an exciting season of summer exhibitions and previews, and this issue is filled with opportunities for discovery and fun! So, go enjoy yourself and collect beautiful art and experiences along the way!

Best Regards,

P.S. This is our annual Sculpture issue. We have more than 20 pages dedicated to exceptional sculptors inside. Summer is a great time to start your first sculpture garden or buy your first piece. Sculpture is as fundamental as painting and drawing when it comes to establishing a well-rounded collection, and we are here to help you achieve your vision!
