Elena Zolotnitsky creates emotionally charged representational paintings that exist between observation and memory, realism and abstraction. Working with a deeply physical and expressive approach to paint, Zolotnitsky builds richly layered surfaces where gesture, texture, color and material presence becomes inseparable from the emotional content of the work itself.
Elena Zolotnitsky, Work in Progress (Valentine Series), oil on paper on wood, 32 x 28 in.Presented here is a new interior still life of roses, a work in progress from the artist’s Valentine Series, alongside a suite of chair paintings from the artist’s Extinct Series. Across these works, familiar subjects are transformed into physiologically resonant images that evoke intimacy, absence, memory and human presence. The chairs in particular function almost as portraits or stand-ins, quietly charged with emotional and symbolic weight.

Elena Zolotnitsky, Mondrianish (Extinct Series), oil on Mylar on wood, 16 x 16 in.
Zolotnitsky’s paintings reward close looking, revealing complex surfaces that shift between structure and dissolution, control and spontaneity. Through her distinctive handling of paint and sensitivity to atmosphere, she elevates ordinary objects and domestic spaces into deeply evocative meditations on time, fragility and lived experience. —
