A Contemporary Crossroads

Art Santa Fe welcomes a global mix of contemporary artists to kick off the city’s weeklong celebration of the arts.

Santa Fe, New Mexico, draws artists, collectors and cultural travelers with its creative expression that is woven throughout the city. This July, Art Santa Fereturns for its 26th edition to bring together the international art community for three days of contemporary creative expression.

The fair, which runs July 9 through July 11 at the Santa Fe Community Convention Center, is one of the premier opening events of Santa Fe Art Week, which features more than 100 events throughout the city.

As a cornerstone event, Art Santa Fe offers art collectors and enthusiasts alike the opportunity to appreciate Santa Fe’s rich cultural history alongside contemporary art from around the world, specially curated programming, immersive experiences and live demonstrations. More than 70 national and international galleries and independent artists will present hundreds of works.

“Santa Fe has an extraordinary creative energy where Indigenous, Hispanic, traditional and contemporary influences coexist,” says Linda Mariano, the managing director of marketing for Redwood Art Group. “Art Santa Fesits at that intersection. It has a more intimate, discovery-driven atmosphere that encourages meaningful conversations between artists, galleries, collectors and visitors, creating a different experience from larger metropolitan fairs.”

Part of the unique experience Art Santa Fe offers lies in its programming, which is designed to offer collectors and audiences a look behind the curtain into the creative processes of some of the artists.

“Today’s collectors often want more than simply viewing artwork—they want context, connection and access to the creative process. Live demonstrations, interacting with artists and personal experiences help create those moments,” says Mariano.

The fair provides visitors the opportunity to engage more deeply with artists and understand the stories, techniques and ideas behind the works they see at the show. Engaging with the art and artists in this way also often leads to stronger connections with the work, and more meaningful collecting experiences.

“Our goal is to create a balanced presentation that reflects the breadth of contemporary art today while maintaining strong quality and variety across mediums, styles and perspectives. We look for exhibitors who bring something distinctive—whether it’s emerging voices, established talent, innovative techniques or unique cultural viewpoints,” says Mariano.

Some of the featured exhibitors that will be presenting artwork at the fair include  Miami-based Contemporary Art Gallery; Scott Rispin Fine Art of Queen Creek, Arizona; and Artavita, out of Santa Barbara, California.

For Mariano, the best way to enjoy the show is to “take your time and stay curious. One of the great things about Art Santa Fe is that it welcomes both seasoned collectors and people making their very first acquisition. Spend time talking with artists and galleries, ask questions, revisit pieces that resonate and don’t feel pressured to know everything immediately. Art fairs are about discovery, and often the most memorable works are the ones you keep returning to throughout the day.” —
