Juror Michael Solovyev will select the top 75 paintings out of a massive 500 submissions. “It’s truly impressive how many talented artists are working in such diverse techniques and how differently they each perceive the world,” says  Solovyev. The award reception will offer the following: first place is a cash award of $1,000, second $750 and third is $500. In addition, a new prize of $500 has been added by Jesse and Liz Walker (Liz is a NWWS signature member with Gold Medal  Fellowship status). Works will remain on view online through June 13. Kohei Yamada, Ciao! Manhattan (Empire), 2026, acrylic on canvas, 16 x 12½ in. Courtesy GR Gallery.

Kohei Yamada show
On view through June 14 is the exhibition My Screen Tests at GR Gallery, featuring the artwork of Kohei Yamada. Marking the Osaka-born artist’s debut exhibition in New York, My Screen Tests invites visitors into Yamada’s vibrant world with new works on canvas as well as preparatory sketches. GR Gallery notes, “The series in this exhibition is strongly inspired by New York City’s most iconic art scene, with a specific focus on Andy Warhol and the Silver Factory…Yamada develops paintings that weave together fragments of art history, Japanese visual culture and contemporary imagery into meticulously constructed compositions. His recurring figures act as vessels through which layered references—ranging from classical European painting to pop iconography—are reassembled and recontextualized. Through a highly detailed and deliberate technique, he creates surfaces that feel both historical and immediate. The resulting images exist in a suspended, temporal space, where past and present collapse into one another.”
