New Museum Expansion & Exhibition
As part of its 60,000-square-foot building expansion, the New Museum in New York City opened with the exhibition New Humans: Memories of the Future on March 21. Spanning the entire museum—alongside several major new commissions that will be on long-term view in and around the building—this exhibition features more than 200 artists, writers, scientists, architects and filmmakers, exploring how technological developments have inspired evolving definitions of the “human.” The expansion project broke ground in November 2022 and will double the museum’s exhibition space, creating new venues for artist residencies and public programs, and establishing a permanent home for the museum’s cultural incubator NEW INC.

The Bennett Prize 5 opens its call for entries period on April 13. The Bennett Prize is the largest award given solely to women painters—and remains so—with the increased prize amount at $75,000 for first place and a second prize in the amount of $10,000. Over the first eight years of the prize, the four winners, two runners up, 34 finalists and 10 honorable mentions have participated in 312 group shows and 138 solo shows, received 72 additional awards, earned mentions in 145 art publications, have had 29 galleries represent them, and over 10 million impressions on social media. These results exemplify the Bennett Prize’s mission to propel the careers of women figurative realist painters. For more information, visit www.thebennettprize.org. —
