Although all of Leah Rei’s works are abstract representations of the natural world, the artist’s main goal is to create scenes that can evoke a deep sense of calm and wonder. Utilizing a variety of acrylic paint and mediums, accented with gold or silver leaf, each piece is a study of sunlight—both visually and emotionally. Through the weaving of metallic pigments layered under transparent washes, viewers are invited to meander through Rei’s dreamscapes and find joy, solace and a breath of fresh air.
Leah Rei, The Worthwhile Summit, acrylic with gold leaf on layered wood panel, 48 x 48 in. “Sunlight has become an obsession of mine and my paintings are focused on emulating the positive effect sunlight can have on us,” says Rei. “I work to paint scenes of comfort and healing, places where you can feel the sun blushing warmth on your skin. I hope the devotion that is poured into each piece can be felt by the viewer; that my work becomes a salve, gently offering a warm embrace. I deeply want my work to offer something more than a place to rest your eye but rather a place to hold your heart.”
