There are a dizzying number of art shows and events during Miami Art Week, but two not to miss are Spectrum Miami and Red Dot Miami.Conveniently located under one roof at the sprawling Mana Wynwood Convention Center, and both accessible with a single ticket, the shows are an opportunity to experience more than 150,000 square feet of contemporary art by emerging and established artists from around the world.

This year, across both shows, around 300 exhibitors will return to showcase the work of more than 1,000 artists. The sister fairs, while complementary, also have their own distinct identities. Spectrum Miami, now in its 15th year, has an upscale, urban feel, and provides a platform for independent career artists, studios, and younger galleries that are taking exciting and innovative approaches to contemporary art. Special exhibitions and programming are curated to highlight their talent and Miami’s thriving art scene.

“[SOLO] has become the ultimate venue for independent artists to be discovered—not only by gallery owners and art publishers, but also by collectors and enthusiasts,” says Eric Smith, president of Redwood Art Group, the show’s producer. “[SOLO] enables emerging artists who are independent to have their own platform, to exhibit their work without being part of a collective of artists under a gallery umbrella. These independent artists return each year, as their reputation and popularity continues to grow with the show, and as they build their own clientele of collectors and network of followers. Many original [SOLO] artists become exhibitors at Red Dot Miami after being discovered by a leading gallery. [SOLO] is viewed as a first step and launchpad for an artist’s career.”
After a successful debut last year, the Spectrum Art Theater, where show-goers can watch live art demonstrations by some of today’s most innovative artists throughout the weekend, will once again be a part of the December event.

An exciting new addition is a VIP Lounge. “Due to popular demand and in-line with our elevated experience each year, this will be a highly anticipated outdoor area with lounge seating and VIP bar that will cater to premium ticket holders, invited VIP guests, Redwood Art Group partners and business leaders who are at the forefront of the industry,” says Smith. “We anticipate our new VIP Lounge to be very popular due to its exclusivity and privacy for the art world’s elite.”
The Opening Night Preview for Spectrum Miami and Red Dot Miami will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, December 3, where attendees can enjoy drinks and musical entertainment. “People flock to Miami in December to see the fairs and conduct business, but to also have a good time,” says Smith. “Every art fair has the underlying goal to prosper and conduct sales for its exhibitors…This world-renowned week in December remains as popular as ever for the art world, but because it’s Miami, it will always be advantageous for fairs to add an extra layer of appeal for the audience, who like to relax in the Magic City after conducting business…Our exhibitors and collectors return to the fairs each year because of the connection they have on a social level ‘after-hours,’ so we ensure they are fully entertained with additional cultural attractions as part of our programming, such as fashion and music. The feedback has been excellent and they seem to want more.” —
