Time Flies

Letter from the Editor

“Magazine time,” as I like to call it, is a funny thing. This is the December issue but I’m writing this on the last day of October as we wrap up another edition of American Art Collector and ship it off to our press, so it can arrive at your door (and on newsstands) by the end of November.

Essentially it’s like living in the present and the future at once. It’s probably not the most Zen way to live but if you work in print media you’ve accepted it’s a labor of love, and maybe, like British writer Douglas Adams once said, even “love the deadlines [and] the whooshing sound they make as they fly.”

We know that working so far ahead can also be challenging for our gallery partners, especially this time of year, when the holidays interrupt the normal rhythms and many are taking a breather before barreling into the new year. We get it, but for us there is no rest for the wicked. So, this is a gentle reminder that we work two months out so please let us know about your exhibitions well in advance! Nothing makes me groan like when I learn about a show I would have loved to cover after that month's issue has long since sailed.

Here at American Art Collector, we review the past, evaluate the present and plan for the future. Each year, we look over what worked, what to carry over into next year, what to shed, and what we can add or change to keep us fresh.

This issue contains our 17th annual Collector’s Focus dedicated to figurative art and our 18th annual Art Lover’s Guide to Florida. Clearly, we’ve kept these special sections around for all these years because they are favorites of our subscribers. Figurative art is one of the most timeless genres and among the most popular with artists and collectors. Beginning on Page 50, you will see why. And what better time of the year to go to Florida, when the weather is perfect and the art experiences are at their peak. Turn to Page 56 to learn more.

In 2026, you are going to find all of the classic content you’ve come to expect in American Art Collector along with quite a few exciting surprises that we will unveil in the coming months. Please be a part of making American Art Collector the best it can be—send us your artwork, send us your exhibition schedules, tip me off to artists you’ve been following, let us know about recent art sales so we can highlight them in our Sold! pages. There are so many ways to get involved. We’re open to them all.

See you next year!
