Highlights of the sales and connections achieved from the pages of American Art Collector

Bruce Lurie Gallery sells Geoffrey Gersten painting at Hamptons Fine Art Fair
“A client based in the Hamptons expressed interest in Geoffrey Gersten’s Vogue Beach after receiving our preview [of works we were bringing to the July show],” shares Bruce Lurie. “He later viewed the piece in person at the Hamptons Fine Art Fair and was immediately taken with it, though initially unsure about its placement within his space. After creating a series of mockups to explore potential settings, he felt confident in the fit and ultimately acquired the work.” In another exciting recent sale, a client’s interest was piqued by Michael Gorman’s mixed media paintings, “which sparked a thoughtful dialogue about the most suitable subject matter for his collection and his budget,” Lurie explains. “This led to an agreement on the acquisition of the striking Blue Bull, along with a commissioned piece to be completed next year. It’s an exciting example of the artist’s growing international presence.”

Andreas Claussen, YOU HAVE TO TRY AGAIN & AGAIN, oil on canvas, 35 x 47 in. Courtesy Principle Gallery, Alexandria, VA.

A Principle Gallery client was taken by the playful paintings of Andreas Claussen
“This was a fun sale!,” shares Priciple Gallery's assistant director Taylor Chauncey. “We sold this painting to a woman who wanted to surprise her husband for Christmas. Her husband had contacted us earlier in the year expressing interest, so it was exciting to help his wife acquire this special gift for him.” (The painting was shipped to their son’s house in New Jersey to keep the client’s husband from seeing the box.) “Andreas Claussen’s work appeals to the child in all of us,” continues Chauncey. “YOU HAVE TO TRY AGAIN & AGAIN is an homage to the iconic duo, Wile E. Coyote, super genius, and the unstoppable Road Runner. In addition to the notable characters, you’ll also catch a message about resilience, survival and ingenuity.”

Brett Moffatt, Bright Star, 2025, oil on panel, 7 x 5 in. Courtesy 33 Contemporary, Lake Worth Beach, FL.

Work featured in a preview of a August show sells through 33 Contemporary

Brett Moffatt’s painting Bright Star was in a preview of 33 Contemporary’s August group show A Poetic Response, which tasked artists to explore the connection between visual art and poetry. Moffatt’s painting Bright Star was inspired by the John Keats poem of the same name. “When I first encountered Keats’ Bright Star, I was struck by its exploration of the desire for eternal beauty—to be ‘stedfast’ and ‘unchangeable’ in a moment of perfect transcendence,” shares Moffatt. “This poem became the philosophical foundation for this portrait because it captures exactly what I’m trying to achieve through my work: preserving fleeting moments of Hollywood glamour in their most luminous form.” —
