Diverse Arts

Art on Paper New York celebrates the versatility of paper, as medium and substrate.

Featuring some of the best in modern and contemporary paper-based art, Art on Paper New York returns for its 11th edition—promising another lively and inspiring event. The 2025 event, held at New York City's Pier 36, will feature over 80 exhibitors from around the world.

“Collectors can expect works ranging from collage, printmaking and drawing to sculptural installations and photography, all rooted in or innovatively incorporating paper,” explains Kelly Freeman, vice president of Art Market Productions (AMP). “Exhibitors include long-standing New York galleries, newly opened galleries and international programs, so there’s a rich diversity of style and approach.”

Consider artworks by Eckert Fine Art, presenting beautiful examples like the oil on paper, fruit still life, Mactastic, by Eric Forstmann. The booth of Cindy Lisica Gallery features works like the charcoal on paper hummingbird scene, Where We Once Flew, by Rachel Gardner.

Additional highlights stem from Garvey Simon Gallery (California/New York), George Billis Gallery (Connecticut/New York), Tanya Weddemire Gallery (New York) and Bertrand Productions (Pennsylvania). First timers to the event include Transborder Art (New York), Fringe Gallery (Colorado), A Space Gallery (New York), all alongside international hotspots like Galerie Minsky (France), Gallery SoSo (South Korea) and Mazel Galerie (Belgium), to name just a few.

“This year, we have some especially strong immersive installations and live printing workshops throughout the fair,” continues Freeman. “Visitors will see public projects such Fake Plants by Nina Katchadourian, a witty sculptural and photographic series made from everyday materials; and None Dollar Bill by Mark Wagner. We also have a powerful, participatory installation by Mary Beth Edelson, whose Story Gathering Boxes collects handwritten notes from visitors, continuing a dialogue on gender and identity.”

Freeman also mentions that AMP is thrilled to bring back the BOOKsmART Fair, in partnership with Center for Book Arts, which functions as a “fair within the fair,” devoted entirely to artists’ books. This will feature over 20 artists, institutions and presses, offering hands-on interaction and showcasing the evolution of the book as an art form.

“We’re also excited about Ruben Castillo’s One-by-One, Flowing,a poignant installation that uses printmaking on fabric to explore queer intimacy and memory,” Freeman says. “Another standout is the return of Shoestring Press’s live printmaking workshops, which allow visitors to get hands-on with linocut and screen printing—an energizing, communal experience you won’t find at most art fairs.”
