The galleries of Canyon Road will ring in the holiday season with their second annual Fireside Chat Artist Series on December 2 from 4 to 6 p.m. This year the family-friendly event has expanded to 10 participating galleries that will host featured artists talking about their work and inspirations around courtyard bonfires.
Canyon Road Galleries host festive fireside chats with select artists. Ed Sandoval will share stories about his life and art at Canyon Road Contemporary Gallery.
With walkways lined with luminaries, or farolitos, visitors can meander from gallery to gallery, stopping in to listen to artists speak about themselves and their craft and browse the unique artwork at each location. A map, included here, will guide your walking tour between Ahmyo River Gallery, Art Mozaik, Canyon Road Contemporary, GF Contemporary, Martinez Studio, Barbara Meikle Fine Art, Susan Eddings Pérez Gallery and Studio, Prescott Gallery, Ventana Fine Art and Winterowd Gallery.

Visitors to Susan Eddings Pérez Gallery and Studio, will hear the gallery owner and artist speaking about the impact of large-scaled art and Alison Hixon sharing insights about mosaic glass art. In addition to works by Pérez and Hixon, the art of Bob Brady and Rob Lang will also be on display in the gallery. “This is a great way to share unique ideas on how art can enhance a space,” says Pérez. “Doing so in an informal setting can bring about conversations that can be inspirational.”

Author and artist Jill G. Hall, will be speaking and signing books from her “Anne McFarland Series” at Martinez Studio. Sandra and Wence Martinez will have their art on display as well as Michael Doerr’s fine furniture.
By the fire at Canyon Road Contemporary, Taos artist Ed Sandoval will discuss his biography, artwork process and likely share a magical story or two. Works by all of Canyon Road Contemporary’s many artists will be on view in the gallery.
Celebrate the unique holiday spirit of Northern New Mexico with farolitos and bonfires, storytelling and art.
Attendees of the Fireside Chat Artist Series enjoy treats and talks around the bonfire in cozy, intimate gallery settings.
“This is one of my favorite events of the year,” says Nancy Ouimet, president of the Canyon Road Merchants Association and owner of Canyon Road Contemporary Art. “What a wonderful way to experience art from the extremely talented artists who call Canyon Road home.”
The gallery association decided to continue the event because of the positive feedback they received from the artists and those who attended. “Many felt that the event fostered a clear and sincere connection between the ever-reverent values fostered on Canyon Road for the artists, and the experience of meeting the artists,” says Ouimet. “The setting is decidedly non-commercial as it focuses on the human connection. The first Friday of December is the perfect time to celebrate the unique holiday spirit of Northern New Mexico with farolitos and bonfires, as well as good storytelling and great art.” —
