The playful still lifes of Wendy Chidester and the whimsical sculptures of Don Rambadt come together for a new exhibition at Peterson Contemporary Art in Bend, Oregon. New to the gallery, Rambadt has been interested in art since childhood, and has since been able to combine that lifelong curiosity with his love of the natural world, creating unique sculptures of birds that look as though they might be at home in the middle of a forest. The two-person show, titled Spring Exhibition, highlights new sculptural designs by Rambadt alongside fresh, captivating oils by Chidester.
Wendy Chidester, The Get Away, oil, 60 x 28"
Don Rambadt, Boundless, bronze, ed. of 22, 33 x 8 x 8"
The subject matter for Chidester’s artwork is based on objects that have been replaced in our fast-paced technological world, like typewriters and 5-cent Coca-Cola machines. “I resurrect these items in my paintings hoping to bring up memories or a sense of fascination from the viewer,” says Chidester. “Paintings for this show will be mainly early 20th-century typewriters, cameras, movie projectors and phones from my personal collection. For the younger generation, the show will be an eye opener and an educational experience. For the older generation, the show will bring back memories of a simpler time and an appreciation for where today’s modes of communication started.”
Don Rambadt, Dee II, bronze, ed. of 44, 11 x 6 x 5"
Wendy Chidester, Underwood Standard, oil 40 x 40"
She continues, “I believe my work will pair nicely with Don Rambadt’s work for several reasons—the intricate detail we both pay attention to, the similar palette we use, and the simplicity in his form and my composition.”
Spring Exhibition is on view April 1 to 30, with an opening that first Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. —
