Trio of Shows

Abend Gallery has a slate of exhibitions scheduled that will delight with their range of styles

This summer Abend Gallery in Denver has a slate of exhibitions scheduled that will delight with their range of styles. Included are three solo shows for artists Conrado López, Shawn Krueger and Seth Winegar.Seth Winegar, Gold on the Trees, oil, 48 x 24"

Spanish artist López’s exhibition is his debut solo show at the gallery and it will be on view from July 3 through 31. The essence of his approach to art is graffiti, but it is blended seamlessly into traditional oil painting techniques. This mix of realism and graffiti has created a contemporary signature style. López’s artwork often has strong power and energy through the models that are depicted, while the staging, composition and color contrasts add to the overall narrative of the work. In the show, collectors will find the painting Mama, a beautiful rendering of a woman standing in a kitchen. Her expression reflects her experience and time.Conrado López, Mama, oil on canvas, 42 x 32"

Conrado López, Alba en la cama, oil on canvas, 63 x 42"

July 7 through August 7 will be Krueger’s exhibition which includes many pieces depicting the edge of forests. “Sometimes we are in the woods, sometimes we are emerging. Mostly we are somewhere between. It feels somewhat appropriate for the times,” he says. Included among those pieces is The Recital at Dusk, a scene of the sun sparkling off the trunks of trees just as the sun is set to fall. Describing the work, Krueger says, “In The Recital at Dusk, my penchant for arranging the trees as [Thomas] Dewing might pose his figures, is on display. Trunks gently and sometimes elegantly bend as though reaching for something just out of the composition. More metaphor, I suppose.”Shawn Krueger, The Recital at Dusk, oil on linen, 16 x 20"

Winegar’s show, titled The World Around Me, will take place July 14 through August 11. The exhibition includes landscapes reflecting places that he has been or seen. Among the paintings is Gold on the Trees, a brightly colored work that expresses the time of day as light plays along the aspen trees. “This painting was a fun playful use of yellow with some of my favorite type of trees: aspens,” he says. “The blues also really play nicely against the strength of the bright yellow and white trunks. An interesting composition and format, this painting was done from a smaller study of some Colorado aspens.” —
