Bill Lane
watercolor
14 x 10 inches (L x W)
Bill is an artist member of the Copley Society of Art in Boston, an exhibiting artist member of the Providence Art Club as well as a Signature Artist Member in the New England Watercolor Society and the Rhode Island Watercolor Society. He enjoys plein air painting whenever possible but New England winters, which make for frozen watercolors... and fingers... tend to keep him in the studio. Artist's Statement: Everyday scenes from life intrigue me the most; be it a barren skyline, boats at the dock or city life on a busy day. I observe how the light plays into the scene and reflects off the subjects. I work to capture that light and make it my point-of-interest in the painting.

He's shown his work nationally and internationally and has won numerous awards including Best of Show in the Copley Society of Art juried show, 'Pictures at an Exhibition'. *Barney Levitt's solo show, "Summer Fun" will take place at Gallery Antonia in Chatham, MA, Saturday, July 24th from 4-6. Eli Cedrone
oil on canvas
11 x 14 inches (L x W)
Artist's Statement: I’ve always been influenced by the power of images to express ideas and emotions. Painting is a process of discovery and decision-making where disparate elements pull together until the image is clearly expressed. I'm drawn to the human form where figures exist both in representational and painterly worlds. Often I’ll explore a narrative theme in order to capture the emotional power of a moment in time. I think common everyday things can be beautiful and resonant without being manipulative or artificially provocative. For me, landscape painting is a journey in search of something that evokes a personal response to nature beyond the obvious and descriptive. Ultimately my concerns are with the expressive qualities of light captured with paint.

Carol Maguire Artist Statement: “I am in constant search for the image that best reflects my voice…..an image that matches my emotional and spiritual journey………..always seeking the perfect balance of light and color. Why do I paint? It’s my creative voice, the expression of my outlook on life. I paint to capture a moment in my life……through my eyes.” My love of art, color, china, textiles and gardening have all become inspiration and fodder for my paintings. I paint things to which I am visually attracted, the objects that surround my daily life. Family treasures, gifts from friends, garage sales finds all in combination with nature’s glorious fruits and flowers. I spent my early years in all sorts of creative pursuits. First as a quilter then as a professional doll maker, designing and creating art dolls. I have designed furniture, children’s clothing, and dinnerware for Wedgwood and Lenox China .

Artist Statement: “I feel privileged to live in a place of such ever-changing beauty. My goal is to convey the softness of the light on the water, sand and dunes in my pastel paintings. The atmosphere on the Cape is so soft because we are surrounded by water. Being out on the beaches and water in the early morning mist, to be able capture this beauty....I can think of nothing more wonderful. Everyday I wake up and am thankful that I now have the time to create on paper what is so pleasing to the visual eye.”

Bill Davis grew up on Cape Cod during a time when the Cape was a much quieter summer vacation land. At 10 years old, he took sailing lessons at the Hyannis Port Yacht learning to sail Beetlecats and other local built wooden boats. At 14 years old, he started working at the Hyannis Theater and continued there until 1970. Attended Barnstable High School and was always found in the Art Rooms. After High School graduation and a year attending Cape Cod Community College Bill went to work for his father's Heating & Air conditioning Company. But in the late 70's, he returned to painting at night after work. In 1978 he started selling his paintings to local builders and folks in Hyannis Port. By 1982 he made the switch to painting full time. Bill had his first show at Richard Bourne Company 1983 along with an artist friend Elizabeth Mumford. The show was well received and attended by Lee Remick and Jackie Onasiss. This was the beginning of a very long list of shows all over the country.
