Rest and Relaxation

Forrest Rodts is exhibiting new works during a forthcoming exhibition at Quidley & Co.’s Nantucket location

Forrest Rodts lives in the charming coastal town of Marblehead, Massachusetts, near Boston, and his artwork exudes a sense of respite and relaxation—enjoying a drink by the fireside or lounging on a sandy shoreline. The artist is exhibiting new works during a forthcoming exhibition at Quidley & Co.’s Nantucket location from July 9 to 22. “Forrest has that unique ability to capture a fond memory. Whether it is checking the surf, sipping your favorite beverage or going to the beach, he transports the viewer to that special spot with his paintings,” says Chris Quidley, gallery president and director.Dog Day Afternoon, acrylic on board, 12 x 24"

“These new works are my continued pursuit of capturing a moment in time, particularly time at the beach or relaxing with your favorite cocktail,” says Rodts. In Sprinis, two cocktails rest on a ledge overlooking a glistening ocean gently swaying along, while in Dog Day Afternoon, an old wood-paneled station wagon is parked on the shore, its back trunk ajar to reveal a sleeping dog and the fix-ins for a picnic on the beach. LUV BUG, acrylic on board, 9 x 12"

“I’m never happier than when I’m near the ocean, on the beach or spending time with my friends. It’s a time of relaxation,” says Rodts. “I never want to make the viewer feel anxious. I feel that art should be soothing and take the viewer to a place they want to be, whether it’s a memory of days past or even a few hours ago. I love painting things that bring me back to lazy summer days of my youth, when life seemed simple and I hope that my audience gets the same feeling through my work.” Other works include Old Fashioned, depicting the classic cocktail in front of a roaring fire.Old Fashioned, acrylic on board, 9 x 12"

“I’m always trying to improve my technique, making the scenes more realistic, making water appear truly wet, while still maintaining a ‘feeling’ to the scene,” says the artist. “The audience has to have an emotional response for them to relate to the piece.” —
