First-time Buyer
Bonner David Galleries, which has locations in Scottsdale, Arizona, and New York City, recently sold the contemporary painting Lost City of Demille, by Gail Morris, to a first-time buyer in Tennessee. Morris is recognized for her abstract landscapes that use blocks of color to indicate horizon lines. In this work, the artist used a beautiful blue for the top half of the painting, a green at the middle and a neutral tone for the bottom portion.
The collector of the painting inquired about the work after seeing it online. It was their first modern piece when compared to the other works in the collection. “We have very few collectors in Tennessee and have noticed that our collector bases out of state and internationally has grown significantly in the past year,” the gallery says.
The painting also appeared in American Art Collector’s March issue as part of a feature on the gallery’s New York location in our Art Lover’s Guide to Collecting Fine Art in Washington, D.C. & the Mid-Atlantic States.

Expressive Landscape Captivates
During a Thursday night ArtWalk in Scottsdale, Arizona, a family arrived at Paul Scott Gallery to look around and see the artwork. The parents and their two children were captivated by artist Brian Cote’s artwork, commenting that it is very expressive, has thick texture, lots of color and it was different from other Southwest artwork. Looking over the work, the foursome made a “family decision” to purchase At Butcher Jones Lake.
“Brian has been an exclusive artist with Paul Scott Gallery for almost two years now. It is so refreshing to see such a confident painter take on the Southwestern landscape in such a refreshing manner. Sometimes it appears that he sculpts the paint on the canvas using brush, palette knife and his fingers,” says Paul Eubanks, owner of the gallery. “It has been a good sign that at least half of his paintings sold have shipped to other areas—Washington, Virginia, Vermont and Wisconsin in the last four months. It excites me to see that his unique style is exceeding any ‘Southwestern brand.’”
