Picturesque places around the world have long served as the inspiration for Dmitri Danish’s artwork. Many of them are from the artist’s travels, with his primary fascination being architecturally rich cities, such as those found in the Mediterranean and parts of the United States. February 21 through March 14, around 20 original paintings by Danish will be on view at Cutter & Cutter Fine Art in St. Augustine, Florida.
"Under the Setting Sun," oil on canvas, 24 x 36"“The main themes of this exhibition are landscapes of Mediterranean cities and the city of St. Augustine, Florida,” Danish says. “I love the Mediterranean and find it to be one of the most picturesque places in Europe. I love the nature, cuisine and architecture. I travel to these places with joy, and then I put on canvas my impressions of this beautiful part of the world.”
"Evening Rain," oil on canvas, 20 x 16"St. Augustine, as he explains, is one of the oldest historical cities on the Atlantic coast of the United States. “This city is impossible not to fall in love with,” he says. “[It has a] 17th-century fort, Bridge of Lions, magical oaks, cozy restaurants, pedestrian streets framed on both sides by original colonial buildings and a special local flavor...here the spirit of old America reigns!”
Among the paintings of the Florida city in the exhibition are Under the Setting Sun and Town at Night. In the former work, he captures the “pearl pink light” that he says floods the city at twilight, while the later painting shows the magic of cities at night. “The stronger the city plunges into the dark, the brighter they burn lights,” Danish describes. “Windows in every corner of the night city become unique in their own way.”
"Town at Night," oil on canvas, 24 x 36"Evening Rain is a painting from the Pacific coast of the United States that depicts an infrequent rain in a secluded Southern California locale. “The rain-washed world looks brighter and more colorful. I am very in love with rain,” he says. “I walked for a long time under this rain. I was inspired by and enjoyed the unique atmosphere of a combination of light and the aromas of the rainy night. I sought to convey my emotional delight in this work.”
