“It’s sort of like 40 shades of green,” says artist Del-Bourree Bach with a laugh, describing his charming acrylic Shewville Summer, which will hang as part of the Annual Holiday Show at Susan Powell Fine Art. “There’s some subtle blues, ultramarine, cerulean, and then there’s always titanium white,” he adds. The painting features the quintessential red barn surrounded by vibrant greenery, inspired by a barn about five miles from the artist’s home in Mystic, Connecticut.
More than 30 esteemed artists will be showcased in the exhibition, which runs from December 1 to 29, including Vincent Giarrano, Kathy Anderson, Jeanne Rosier Smith, Grace DeVito and Dennis Sheehan. The subject matter depicted throughout the show is diverse as well, from seascapes and city scenes to florals and still lifes.

Smith brings about 10 seascapes to the show, including All That Glitters, a pastel depicting the minute details of a small wave crashing into the ocean. “A seascape painting should make the viewer hear, smell and feel the ocean, capturing light and movement in a single image,” says Smith. “All that Glitters brings the viewer right into the water. Early morning light, early in the summer season, glitters on the back waves, glows through the wave’s crest and shines on the rolling water. Subtle diagonals convey the ocean’s constant motion and converge at the crashing wave.”

The Holiday Show will feature as many as 75 new works.
