René Romero Schuler’s work speaks to the complexities of the human condition and the spirit that connects all human beings. Her works depict female figures that don’t embody perfection but rather a quiet strength that comes from living fully and carrying the evidence with grace.
The artist describers her works as purposely semi-abstract and textured, leaving them open to the interpretation of the viewer. In her upcoming show at Idaho Art Gallery titled Standing Tall,the collection of new paintings are an acknowledgement that resilience does not mean becoming something new, but is instead about individuals becoming more themselves.

“Schuler’s story is a huge part of why I wanted to bring her work to the Idaho Art Gallery,” says Nellie Garibyan, gallery owner and curator. “She came to painting through a very personal and unconventional path, and her work has grown out of the difficult experiences, resilience and healing that have shaped her life. What I find so compelling is that although the work is deeply personal, to René, the figures themselves are anonymous. They become everyone and no one. You can look at one of her paintings and recognize something of yourself in it.”
The show is a celebration of the enduring human spirit and the experiences that have shape and strengthen both the artist and viewers alike. “There is so much strength in her work, but it isn’t a polished or superficial kind of strength. You can see the layers, the scars, the imperfections and the humanity,” Garibyan continues. “I think art is at its best when it gives us a way to connect with something we may not have words for ourselves, and René does that beautifully. I’m incredibly excited to share her work with Idaho collectors this November.”

Standing Tall will open on November 3 and run through the 28th at Idaho Art Gallery in Bosie, Idaho. An opening reception will be held on Thursday, November 5 from 5 to 9 p.m. —
