Dellorco’s long-standing fascination with architecture is particularly evident in En Pointe, a painting in which a dancer rises within an intricately rendered interior, surrounded by soaring columns, ornamentation and architectural detail. Her extended form and sweeping crimson fabric introduce fluidity and spontaneity into the highly structured environment.

In Discovery, architectural structure gives way to abstraction as a gracefully rendered figure emerges from an explosion of brilliant cobalt blue. Her upward-reaching pose suggests freedom and release, while spontaneous marks and splashes of color seem to carry her movement beyond the figure itself. The juxtaposition of carefully modeled realism and uninhibited abstraction gives the painting its distinctive energy. Stormy Weather introduces yet another environment. Against a turbulent sea and brooding sky, Dellorco again uses fabric almost as a character within the painting—an expressive element capable of conveying motion, emotion and drama.
