Sixty-five of Colorado’s top fine artists were selected by an elite group of artist-judges to show four examples of their work in the 35th Annual Governor’s Art Show & Sale. Among them are some of the biggest names in contemporary realism, including Quang Ho, Clyde Aspevig, Kim English, George Lundeen, Jane DeDecker, Daniel Sprick, Rosetta and Kirsten Kokkin, to name just a few.

Celebrated contemporary realist and Denver resident Daniel Sprick is known for works in the style of Vanitas, a still life capturing some of the artist’s signature objects—birds, skulls and roses—in his distinctive stark style and cool palette. Other highlights include works by award-winning wildlife sculptor Diane Mason, represented here by her bronze of a hummingbird perched on a jar of paintbrushes; potent portraiture by Benjamin Walling and traditional still lifes by Nikolay Rizhankov.

“Colorado leads the nation in esteemed highly successful artists,” says show director Ruth Scott. “All of these superstars have been in the show at one time or another and continue to support this show for not only the quality we so highly maintain and demand, but for our philanthropic endeavors.” One hundred percent of the proceeds from the Governor’s Art Show & Sale benefits community nonprofit programming, earning the event the tagline “Art with Heart.” To date, the show has distributed more than $4 million to Colorado artists, nonprofits and art scholarships, and has distributed more than $150,000 to the Thompson Education Foundation’s (TEF) Fund for Unhoused Youth.

“We’re a very diverse show,” says Scott. “We offer a wide variety of mediums, artistic techniques and styles…we have something for everyone. Being a juried show promises a high-quality level of fine art. So, we feel we’re doing something right to keep our visitors and patrons happy to keep coming back. We have visitors and buyers from all over the country and international. This exhibit beautifully combines excellence in art with the positive impact of guided philanthropy.” —
