Highlights of the sales and connections achieved from the pages of American Art Collector

Gallery 1261 sells abstracted portrait by popular painter Ron Hicks
“A highlight from our Small Works Show, an intimate 12-by-12 inch oil painting, Matilda, by Ron Hicks, demonstrates his masterful ability to capture human essence through subtle tones and expressive brushwork,” says a Gallery 1261 representative. The piece sold in late summer to a collector who shares, “When I look at Matilda, there is something gentle yet strong about her at the same time. The painting makes me slow down and reminds me of the quiet beauty in life. It also makes me reflect on the joy and happiness each of us hopes for.”

Principle Gallery sells work by October cover artist Russell Gordon
Russell Gordon’s painting Turn was in the artist’s October solo exhibition, Instinct & Order, at Principle Gallery’s Alexandria, Virgina, location. A preview of the show was published in the October issue of American Art Collector and Gordon’s piece, Sod Buster, was selected for that month’s cover. “The clients who purchased this piece also bought another painting by Gordon called Bluejay Birch,” shares assistant gallery director Taylor Chauncey. “This painting takes animal portraiture to the next level. It transcends whimsy and enters the realm of myth with a stoat painted not as a caricature, but as a noble character. You aren’t looking at an animal dressed as a human; you’re looking at a citizen of a parallel history, rendered with both dignity and wit.” —
