More than five dozen works of pastel art from some of the top pastelists in the country will be on view during the Pastel Society of New Mexico’s fifth annual Enchanted Colors exhibition at the Millicent Rogers Museum outside of Taos in El Prado, New Mexico. While the exhibition features artists from across the country, the majority of artists included in the show hail from the Land of Enchantment and other parts of the Southwest.

Attendees will be able to explore a wide swath of pastel works in landscape, still life, figurative work, abstraction and more, as well as a variety of differing styles in this unique medium that toes the line between wet and dry.
“PSNM enlisted three accomplished, nationally known pastelists to serve as jurors, [Bruce A. Gomez, William Schneider and Marie Tippets]. They reviewed and scored the 247 paintings that were submitted by artists living in 15 states across the U.S. and as far away as France,” explains PSNM’s Marilyn Drake. The Judge of Awards is accomplished wildlife and nature artist Lisa Gleim.

Christine Debrosky, Desert Filigree, pastel, 18 x 24"
The highest scoring paintings are then displayed as part of the forthcoming exhibition within two gallery rooms at the Millicent Rogers Museum. The main gallery will also display paintings by juried artists who chose to have their paintings appear digitally in a “Virtual Interactive Online Exhibition” consisting of nearly 40 additional paintings. Together, approximately 100 works of art in total will be available for viewing.

Suzanne Malesovas, Last Light, pastel, 11 x 17"
“I am looking forward to seeing new paintings by artists I’m familiar with as well as those whose artwork I have never had the pleasure of seeing in person,” says Drake. “The experience of viewing paintings framed and hanging in an exhibition is so much more satisfying than seeing paintings in an online exhibit.”
