Highlights of the sales and connections achieved from the pages of American Art Collector

Karen Hollingsworth, Perspective, oil on canvas, 18 x 14". Courtesy Shain Gallery, Charlotte, NC.

Shain Gallery sells two works by versatile artist Karen Hollingsworth
“The client was a long-time fan of Karen Hollingsworth and had been waiting for the perfect moment to add a piece to her collection,” says Shain Gallery associate Emma McCuiston. “The client is based out of Texas, but found us online through social media. She called the gallery to purchase a classic Karen Hollingsworth, Perspective, with the bird resting on the paper bag. At the time, we only had two of Karen’s pieces in stock at the gallery, and the client was such a fan she decided to take both! We carefully packed them up and sent them to their new home in Texas.”

Collector finally obtains a Lance Myers floral through Wally Workman Gallery

“This client has been wanting a piece by Lance Myers since we started carrying his work last year,” says Wally Workman Gallery partner Rachel Stephens. “But we always sold them before he had a chance. When we get a new piece by an artist, we send an email to interested clients and, since this client always saw the email too late, he asked us to please call him as soon as the piece was released. And that’s what we did with this piece, which is happily now in his collection.”

Gallery 1261 sells haunting Daniel Sprick still life featured in April issue
The April 2024 issue of American Art Collector contained a feature on a Daniel Sprick retrospective at Denver’s Madden Museum of Art. Titled Fleeting Presence: The Liminal Art of Daniel Sprick, it was an assemblage of 54 works spanning the 40-year breadth of Sprick’s career.

The collector who purchased Bird and Mirror says, “My husband and I visited Dan’s recent show at the Madden Museum of Art. We absolutely fell in love with Bird and Mirror. After seeing the show, we went home and reached out to Gallery 1261 to see if [the painting] was available. We were thrilled to buy the painting and several others. Our son was also thrilled, and the paintings will be kept in the family for future generations to enjoy.”

Rubine Red Gallery sells multiple paintings by George Halvorson
“We made a large recent sale to a multinational interior designer (Los Angeles and Mumbai) of George Halvorson’s large-scale paintings,” says Jason Howard, owner of Rubine Red Gallery in Palm Springs, California. “She purchased multiple works for her clients in India including Halvorson’s titles, one of which is Up Periscope,” a highly stylized, close-cropped depiction of a swimmer that reflects the mid-century modern design aesthetic Palm Springs exemplifies.  —
