For three days in early November, Art San Diego presents a rich tapestry of contemporary, modern art and design by international and national, emerging and established artists. For the event’s 16th edition, roughly 100 galleries and artists will come together to create the region’s most acclaimed marketplace.

“Art San Diego is a special and unique experience because it brings together the local art community alongside national and international artists, creating a bridge among artists, high-end collectors, art lovers and striving families, in a sophisticated, gallery-style venue where everyone enjoys engaging events and the discovery of new artwork,” says Linda Mariano, managing director of marketing at Redwood Art Group.
Included in this year’s showcase is a wide array of themes, styles and mediums, including paintings, photography, limited edition prints, sculpture, glassworks, ceramics, wearable art, objects, functional art, design and so much more.

Attendees can explore more than 100 international gallery and artist booths at Art San Diego.
“Art San Diego has some different aspects than any of our other fairs,” Mariano adds. “We are very active with some of our community partners in San Diego: Monarch School, Humble Design and Arts District Liberty Station. Additionally, UBS Financial Services has been the presenting sponsor of Art San Diego since its inception. Through Access to Art…we work with selected charities and those they serve to share opportunities in art, design, business development and more…Attendees will be able to enjoy special installations from each of our non-profit partners, purchase artwork created for the Access to Art program, while learning more about how each makes the San Diego community a better place to live.”

Ticket holders for the fair are privy to impressive works like Ann Golumbuk’s bold and energetic paintings. “Each abstract piece tells a story—a story about life as it comes to me in that moment,” the artist shares about pieces like Love Will Find a Way. “In my work, I create layers of history with the use of large brushes, mops and dynamic marks. My work has a raw, gritty style which I create with a variety of mediums like acrylic paint, spray paint, house paint and acrylic markers.”
Artist Carol Hartman, who, since 2009, has shifted her focus to a series of large oil paintings, offers interactive insights into human experiences intertwined with environmental issues, exhibiting across the United States and Europe.

Other vendors include Artavita/World Wide Art—“a publisher of curated, contemporary art anthologies, featuring artists from around the world, promotes artists online, in print and at leading art fairs, and is a multiple year ASD exhibitor taking a major presence at the fair,” explains Mariano. This year, they present around 70 works, including paintings, photography, sculpture, drawings and digital art.
Held at the San Diego Convention Center, the event begins with the First Look Friday, on November 1, from 12 to 5 p.m., followed by the Collectors’ VIP Opening from 6 to 9 p.m. The event opens to the public on Saturday, November 2 and runs through Sunday, November 3. New to the program this year is a Collectors’ Saturday Soirée held on Saturday, November 2, from 5 to 7 p.m. “This will be a fun collector’s event with libations and small bites, as well as live demonstrations by selected artists,” describes Mariano. —
