Elizabeth Barlow, Jubilation, oil on line, 54 x 47"
Floral by Elizabeth Barlow flies out of Andra Norris Gallery at San Francisco Art Fair
“The artist Elizabeth Barlow, an oil painter who reveals the transformative power of beauty in her paintings, worked diligently to create and complete Jubilation in time for the San Francisco Art Fair and it sold immediately on day one,” says Norris, whose gallery is in Burlingame, California. “The buyer, who is from New Jersey, loves the idea of having flowers in his life that will never die. He too is an artist and he appreciated the skill and dedication that it took Elizabeth Barlow to make this painting. He said that he will enjoy living with Jubilation over a lifetime.”
The artist explains that the title was inspired by a Rumi quote: “Go in quest of jubilation’s mysterious blessings.” Barlow continues, “I love this phrase because it captures perfectly how I feel about beauty. When I open my heart to a moment of beauty, I feel a wave of jubilation—and also a sense of awe at the marvels of our universe.”

Hiroshi Sato, Movie Ticket Booth, oil on canvas, 48 x 42”
Marrow Gallery sells two works by Hiroshi Sato at San Francisco Art Fair
Two works by contemporary figurative painter Hiroshi Sato were quickly scooped up by the same buyer at the San Francisco Art Fair. “Known for his romantic figures, often in isolation and repose, the works caught the eye of local collectors, who purchased the works on the spot,” says Marrow Gallery director Marissa Patten. “Sato’s work garnered much attention over the course of the three-day art fair, which is known to showcase a strong group of local and emerging talent in the San Francisco Bay Area.” Sato is represented by Marrow Gallery, a contemporary San Francisco art gallery that showcases Bay Area artists as well as a roster of national and international talent.

Pauline Roche, Fields of Color, oil on linen, 30 x 40”
Jones & Terwilliger Galleries sells colorful landscape by Pauline Roche
“A very dear client of ours brought a visiting friend from Colorado into our Carmel-by-the-Sea, California, gallery in March,” relays gallerist Patricia Terwilliger. “With over 50 prominent artists displayed throughout our 3,600 square foot gallery, she wandered into the middle and it was literally love at first sight. As soon as she laid eyes on Fields of Color by Pauline Roche, she was emotionally struck by the vibrant red colors and the field workers harvesting the flowers. She had to live with this painting. This has been our experience with Pauline’s work after over 10 years since inviting her to join our gallery,” continues Terwilliger. “We are so honored to have her masterful paintings gracing our walls and placing them in the beautiful homes of our clients. It was her museum paintings that first caught my eye, but her storytelling in her canvases, no matter the subject, tugs on your heart.”

Zach Oldenkamp, Beneath Wisdom and Feet, graphite and charcoal, 15 x 17"
San Francisco Art Fair pays off for first time exhibitor Ryan Graff Contemporary
One of the pieces that sold out of Ryan Graff Contemporary’s booth at April’s San Francisco Art Fair was Zach Oldenkamp’s Beneath Wisdom and Feet. “Graphite is a sensitive media, immediately translating an artist’s mood and message,” says the collector who purchased the drawing. “This piece by Zach Oldenkamp evokes an array of feelings about being connected to the earth, one being the pleasure of walking barefoot. Choosing to portray only the subject’s legs in the drawing allows the viewer to project themselves or anyone else into the frame. His line is expressive but the detail is masterful. That’s a delicate balance.” San Francisco gallerist Ryan Graff says, “I’m delighted that what I had to show resonated with people and that Zach’s piece found a great new home—though I’m not going to lie: I’m going to miss looking at this one in the gallery every day.” —Interested in having your SOLD! story featured in the pages of American Art Collector magazine?
