Intersect Aspen and Design | 7/30-8/3 | Aspen, CO

Mountain Magic

For over a decade, Intersect Aspen and Design has been a highlight of the summer season in the Rocky Mountain ski town, which is as popular a destination in August, as it is when the snow is falling. Formerly Art Aspen, when Tim and Dirk von Gal decided to relaunch the fair in 2021, they revamped the name and have continued to bring new exciting elements to the event every year.

For this year’s show, taking place July 30 through August 3 at the Aspen Ice Garden, they are adding a design component to the focus on contemporary art by featuring three galleries displaying functional art curated for the commercial and residential environment of the Mountain West.

“Extraordinary design is one of the most elusive and compelling elements of art fairs,” says CEO Tim von Gal. “Collectible and functional design is an intrinsic part of our daily appreciation of art. As a curated boutique experience, Intersect Aspen Art and Designoffers works and programs tailored to a very savvy Aspen community of collectors and art enthusiasts.”

More than 100 artists and nearly 30 international galleries from over 20 cities will be exhibiting at the show, a number of which will be showcasing works of contemporary realism.

New York City-based Tambaran 2 Gallery will be presenting work by Grant Haffner, whose modern interpretations of country roads, flat landscapes and surrounding water reflects his travels in a pickup on the East Coast. “My work explores memory, transition, movement and the biological relationship between man and nature,” shares the artist. “Through linear, dreamlike landscapes, I elevate the often overlooked experience of road-travel to an exploration of the subtlety of light and emotion.”

Yigal Ozeri, Untitled; Olya, oil on canvas, 18 x 30". Courtesy of the artist and Corridor Contemporary, Tel-Aviv, Israel.

Available at Madison Gallery’s booth will be dramatic large-scale watercolors by acclaimed Bosnian artist Radenko Milak. The Solana Beach, California, gallery will present works like MoMA, which highlights the artist’s focus on the relationship with reality and history through the transformation of photographs into paintings.

Yigal Ozeri’s Untitled; Olya will be among the works featured at Corridor Contemporary, traveling to Aspen all the way from Tel-Aviv, Israel. Now living in New York City, the Israeli artist is best known for his large-scale cinematic and photorealistic oil paintings and portraits that exude an uninhibited sensuality. This will be the first time Ozeri’s work will be on view at Intersect Aspen and is sure to be a highlight at the fair.

Also, make a point to stop by New York-based gallery Winston Wätcher Fine Art to see powerful, panoramic pastels by Zaria Forman whose works document climate change by magnifying the physical complexities and history of polar ice.

In addition to a dynamic mix of international modern and contemporary art galleries, the event will feature timely and original programming, including thoughtful and thought-provoking presentations and panel discussions about the relationships of art and the environment, social consciousness, design and the art landscape of Aspen, curated to encourage dialogue, engagement and inspiration.

“We are thrilled with the lineup of galleries and artists,” says von Gal. “As Aspen’s annual art fair, Intersect Aspen Art and Design delivers exceptional experiences. We strive to create a space for collectors and art enthusiasts to immerse themselves in viewing, acquiring, learning about and discussing the art, and continue to be a must-attend event during Aspen’s world-renowned ArtWeek.” —
