Principle Gallery sells work by J Louis to the model who inspired the piece
Umbrella was included in J Louis’ September solo exhibition at Principle Gallery’s Alexandria, Virgina, location in September. The piece was featured in a preview of the show in that month’s issue of American Art Collector. “We sold this piece to the woman who inspired this painting and another work included in the show,” shares assistant gallery director Taylor Chauncey. “She purchased Umbrella for a very special reason. The model and her then-boyfriend got engaged the day after she worked with Louis. She was even wearing the green dress depicted when he proposed. “We have admired J Louis’ work for years, and I was honored at the opportunity to collaborate with him on his new work,” says Mary Rochford. “To my surprise, the day after I photographed with J, my now fiancé [Patrick Bagwell] proposed. We feel so fortunate to have Umbrella to commemorate this next chapter of our lives together.”

Collector purchases Andrew Orr landscape through Rehs Contemporary
After a preview of Rehs Contemporary’s landscape show in the October issue of the magazine, a piece by Andrew Orr, whose lush, glowing landscapes verge on magical realism, sold to an online buyer. The piece, The Blush of Day, depicts a body of water with rocky outcroppings dotted with pines in his dreamy palette and tone. For Orr, “There is poetry in the natural world; the way a tree branch has weight as it comes down from the tree, just barely touching the ground and coming back up again, the way tall summer grasses can glimmer in bright sunshine or even the way water moves in a shallow river in late summer.” The landscape show at Rehs Contemporary is on view through October 31.
