Retro Party

Scottsdale Artists’ School turns the clock back to 1983 for its Beaux Arts 40th Anniversary gala and fundraiser.

Every year, Scottsdale Artists’ School in Scottsdale, Arizona, hosts the Beaux Artscelebration and fundraiser. Proceeds directly benefit the non-profit institution, which has evolved into one of the country’s top independent art institutions, offering robust art programs for adults, as well as a premier youth academy and extensive outreach programs. However, this year is bigger than ever, as SAS celebrates its 40th anniversary with a retro ’80s theme. If Ferris Bueller and Marty McFly could be there, they would.

“This 40th anniversary is a time for reflection and celebration,” says SAS executive director Trudy Hayes. “It's a testament to the dedication of artists, instructors, staff and supporters who've fueled our growth. It reminds us of the lives we've touched and nurtured artistically, filling me with immense pride…For the school itself, this milestone showcases our commitment to fostering the arts.”

Indeed, for more than four decades now, SAS has been a hub for education and community in the art world, giving artists of all skill levels and walks of life the opportunity to further hone their craft and explore new avenues in their practice. “It reflects our enduring mission of providing high-quality art education,” Hayes adds. “Looking forward, this anniversary underscores our duty to adapt to evolving artistic needs. We’re excited about expanding programs, reaching more aspiring artists, and remaining a driving force in art education.”

As for the Beaux Arts celebration itself, she adds, “We encourage all attendees to come dressed in their best ’80s attire. Whether channeling the fashion of the New Wave era or rocking some classic ’80s pop culture references or one’s favorite Dynasty character, it’s the perfect opportunity to showcase the style of the ’80s. So, it will be a night of nostalgia, fun and surprises.”

The Beaux Arts 40th Anniversary gala takes place on Saturday November 11 from 6 to 9 p.m., with dinner, drinks and dancing to ’80s hits. An online auction will be held that evening, with original artworks donated by the artists themselves, including the signature painting Separate Tables by Milt Kobayashi. Tickets for the celebration run $150 per person. —
