Principle Gallery sells painting by visiting artist Susan Eyer-Anderson
Little Pistol was exhibited in the National Oil & Acrylic Painters’ Society (NOAPS) Best of America Juried Exhibition, which Principle Gallery hosted at their Alexandria, Virginia, location in August. “It was purchased by one of our longtime collectors,” says assistant gallery directory Taylor Chauncey. “She was in the gallery perusing her options, while at the same time, a collector over the phone was expressing interest in this same painting. However, our in-person collector pulled the trigger (pun intended). Two days later NOAPS awarded this painting as the Best Figure/Portrait. I was captivated by this painting from the moment we unpacked it,” says Chauncey. “It exudes strength, but there’s also an underlying message telling girls and women that they can be anything they want to be. This isn’t a portrait of a little girl playing cowgirl—she’s telling us that she is a cowgirl and proud of it.”

Rehs Gallery sells work by artist featured in the September issue
“We are thrilled to share that Gail Descoeurs’ The Sea and the Sandpiper recently sold,” says Rehs Galleries vice president Alyssa Rehs. “We were exhibiting at an art fair and had a couple of other works by Gail on display…When the buyer asked if we had any larger pieces, we showed her a quick photo of The Sea and the Sandpiper and she instantly fell in love! Not only that, but it was the perfect size and subject to fill the space in her summer home in the Hamptons. As she said, ‘I just have to have that!’ And who would we be to stand in her way?" You can see more of Descouers’ work on Page 83 in a preview of an October group show at Rehs Contemporary.

Mason Williams’ sells winning piece at the California Art Club Gold Medal Exhibition
Plein air painter Mason Williams is on a roll. Williams appeared in the September issue of American Art Collector, in a feature about his discovery of his ancestor’s life as a painter that led to his recent induction into the historic Salmagundi Club. His piece Satellites then went on to win the award for best landscape in the California Art Club Gold Medal Exhibition and sold immediately thereafter. “I actually didn’t find out it sold until a few days later when my friend and fellow California Art Club artist, Jordan Walker, messaged me on Instagram to congratulate me for the sale,” shares Williams. He didn’t know who purchased it until meeting with a friend who had recently met with the chair of the fine art program at Laguna College of Art and Design, Hope Railey. “There in her office, she saw my painting! I was excited to hear this because Hope had already purchased one of my paintings at the 24th Annual Laguna Beach Plein Air Painting Invitational exhibition…She now has two paintings of mine in her office, [and] said ‘it is well deserved!’. I am very humbled to have my work in another great artist’s collection.”

Addison Gallery sells sentimental piece by Cape Cod artist Paul Schulenburg
“Fans of Paul Schulenburg’s work came to Addison Art Gallery asking about new works,” says gallery owner Helen Addison. “Upon seeing a jpeg image of For Sal and Josephine, which was still wet and unframed in the studio, they knew they wanted this painting in their collection.” The painting depicts Frenchie’s Shack which, along with its long time occupants, the Del Deos, has recently made national news. “We have been admirers of Mr. Schulenburg’s work for years and were drawn to this piece for several reasons,” say the Massachusetts collectors. “We’ve been spending time on the dunes and beaches of the Outer Cape for more than 20 years and deeply appreciate the natural, wild beauty of the National Seashore. Sal Del Deo and his late wife Josephine are important members of the Provincetown arts community. As well, Josephine was instrumental in the preservation of these lands and the shacks as part of the National Seashore in the early 1960s. This piece is a fitting tribute to the area we love so much, and to Sal and Josephine Del Deo, for their many contributions.” —
