Artist Focus: David Lidbetter

Drawing inspiration from both the past and present, David Lidbetter’s work speaks to collectors who want a unique and contemporary voice in painting. Often his clients resonate with his work because they enjoy the outdoors and want to surround themselves with it. They have found Lidbetter’s painting style sophisticated and inspiring.

Grey Turns Black, oil on canvas, 24 x 40"

Lidbetter’s pieces take viewers on a journey through captivating landscapes brought to life by a seasoned contemporary artist with 25 years of experience. “For too long, landscape art has been confined to the realm of the elite, inaccessible to those yearning for a connection with the natural world,” he says. “My goal is to shatter those barriers and make this evocative genre accessible to all. By infusing contemporary elements into the traditional landscape, I hope to create a bridge between time-honored beauty and modern sensibilities. I invite you to step into a world where nature’s awe-inspiring beauty is accessible to all.”

When the Sun Comes Out, oil on panel, 8 x 10"

Lidbetter primarily works in oil but often creates studies in watercolor. Both are highly popular with his growing list of collectors. There are abstracted elements to his design as well as realistic views. His passion is to combine both elements and distill his perspective of the rugged landscape to the essential.

Lidbetter lives and works in Canada, where he is represented by four galleries. He has an upcoming exhibition on view from November 10 through December 2 at Wall Space Gallery in Ottawa, Ontario. Learn more at —
