Founded in 1928, the American Artists Professional League has been a beacon for traditional, representational American art for nearly a century. This August, the organization is holding its first in-person exhibition and sale to take place in the Hudson Valley at the historic Howland Cultural Center.

Made up of stunning works of art from juried artist members of the AAPL from across the country, Realism on the Hudson was organized to commemorate the AAPL’s milestone 95th anniversary. In total, the organization consists of more than 500 curated artist members representing some of the finest in American realism today.

Ming Xiong, Galaxy Auspicious, watercolor, 28 x 18"
“The non-profit Howland Cultural Center is the ‘Jewel of Beacon,’ a historic venue originally built in 1872 as a library by the architect Richard Morris Hunt. The center now serves as a vibrant hub for cultural events and activities, [like] art exhibitions, musical performances and literary readings,” says Aki Kano, president of the AAPL. “With its stunning Victorian architecture and rich background, the Howland Cultural Center is a beloved and important institution in the local community. All these things make the Howland Cultural Center the perfect fit for AAPL’s second in-person show of 2023.”

Janis Mattson, Repose, graphite, 10 x 8"
Collectors can expect upward of 60 juried paintings and drawings in the realm of landscapes, still lifes, florals, portraiture and more, by such AAPL members as Thomas Torak, John Salozzo, Eveline Miller, Michael Scherfen and Jacqueline Jones. Artwork in the show, all of which will be for sale, will be displayed on two floors of the Howland Cultural Center’s Northcutt Hall Gallery.
Kano adds that “the Howland Cultural Center…has gained a reputation as an artsy community, attracting artists, collectors, musicians and visitors from all over the world.”

Bob Lavoie, East Village Afternoon, oil on linen, 16 x 12"
