In mid-May, nearly 50 artists from all over the country met up in the small mountain town of Tehachapi, California, to paint and sketch the picturesque region in plein air. After four days of adventuring, including a day spent at a working cattle ranch, artists then took their works back home to finish in the studio.

Those artists will return to Tehachapi to exhibit their finished works during Tehachapi Arts Commission’s Art 2023 Tehachapi Public Art Show, running July 21 to 23. The exhibition and sale is open to the public July 22 and 23, with a private fundraiser and award ceremony on the evening of Friday, July 21. Awards will be presented at the fundraiser benefiting Art in the Parks.
This year’s featured artist is California painter Junn Roca, a Signature Member of the Oil Painters of America and a Signature Artist Member of the California Art Club. Additional artists participating in the 2023 event include Annette Hammer, Patricia Rose Ford, Vicki Pedersen, Otto Sturcke, Chris Burgan, Tina Chong, David Gordon and many others.

This is the third year that impressionist artist Chuck Kovacic will be participating in the event. “The overall quality of the art generated continues to surpass the previous year and I am looking forward to bringing a selection of new works to the proceedings. The attention that the artists are focusing upon this area is well deserved,” says Kovacic. “I’m excited to share my talents and to reconnect with old friends.”

“Tehachapi and the surrounding areas are full of beautiful surprises to paint. Colorful wildflowers, gorgeous vistas, dramatic mountains, charming ranches and a town with great character. The possibilities are endless and hard to choose from!,” says artist Linda Brown, who is taking part in the 2023 event. “But more than anything else, I am looking forward to joining many exceptional artists that I truly admire, and working with the great team and volunteers that put it all together. They sincerely want the artists to succeed and make sure we have a great time in the process. Cap that all off with a classy opening night gala and it makes for one very memorable event.”
