Highlights of the sales and connections achieved from the pages of American Art Collector

Artist sells work out of American Art Collector’s special feature on figurative art
Patricia Schappler’s painting, The Three Graces, ran in the December issue of American Art Collector in the special feature on figurative art. Represented by Didi Menendez through Chicago’s 33 Contemporary Gallery, the piece sold to a collector from India who had purchased a piece by Schappler before. “This piece is a nod to the historical Three Graces but really focuses on the wildness of the garden scene and the young women within the setting, all of it symbolic of transformation,” says Schappler. “Their triad positioning within the bourgeoning nature and crackling air, encouraged life as I see it in them—strong bodies, thoughtful, individual.”

Maxwell Alexander Gallery sells cityscape by Jeremy Mann
“We were contacted by a brand new buyer of this Jeremy Mann,” says Beau Alexander of the piece Composition 186. “He was working with a designer and looking for the perfect painting to be the centerpiece of the room. We met with him and showed him a few options—but he and the designer both agreed this Jeremy Mann was the piece for them. We were happy to work with a new collector of Mann’s work to help make their new home even more special. And by the looks of the finished room, they were right.”

Haven Gallery sells work by fantastical artist Marc Le Rest
Cat Samurai is a tribute to the Maneki Neko, one of Japan’s most common good luck symbols. The buyer, who lives in Louisville, Kentucky, has been collecting Le Rest's animal and samurai courtesans for years. “This is the fourth painting by Marc in my collection,” says Lyndi Lou, who purchased the piece in an online preview, sight unseen. “His attention to detail is astonishing and only matched by the vivid and specific use of color in each piece. Marc nimbly combines whimsy and regality with an obviously well-practiced hand, and each time I look at them I find something new to adore.”

Modern Eden Gallery sells stunning sculpture by Kristin and Colin Poole
The ceramic sculpture Dove Dreams of Flying “was inspired by the birds in our aviary and how much our pet friends teach us, enriching our lives,” share artists and collaborators Kristin and Colin Poole. “The bird is a portrait of Zozo, our favorite Damascene pigeon and the young woman is named after Dove, our first bird. Here, perhaps Zozo shares a story about what it’s like to fly and Dove begins to daydream.” Modern Eden Gallery was thrilled to find the perfect collector for the piece and notes, “It’s always a wonderful feeling to match beautiful art to a loving home where it will be appreciated for years to come.” —
