Highlights of the sales and connections achieved from the pages of American Art Collector

The April cover sells hours after 33 Contemporary Gallery shares it on social media
Heather Brunetti’s painting Reliving Past Lives in the Future graced the April cover of American Art Collector. Brunetti’s piece was featured in a preview of Masterworks, an online show presented by 33 Contemporary Gallery in Chicago. After receiving the magazine, Didi Menendez, a gallery curator, shared the news that Brunetti’s painting was on the cover on social media, and the sale came in a few hours later. “The buyer had been admiring the painting for a while and took the plunge and bought it from our Artsy listing,” says Menendez.  Brunetti says, “I was happy to hear my painting found a home so quickly after being featured on the cover of American Art Collector—the very same day the sneak peek was revealed! The enthusiastic buyer had been admiring the painting for some time, and once they saw the post knew they needed to have it in their collection.”

Collector commissions piece by landscape artist Lynn Boggess through Principle Gallery
The sale of 14 August 2022 by Lynn Boggess was a commission orchestrated by Chad Weaver as a Christmas gift for his wife Andrea Weaver. They live in Clarksburg, West Virginia, and Andrea was a former student of Lynn’s in 1994 at Fairmont State University in Fairmont, West Virginia.

“This was a fun sale to facilitate because I got to help the collector arrange something that would have so much meaning,” says Taylor Chauncey, assistant director of Principle Gallery’s Alexandria, Virginia, location. “Art makes such a unique gift, but one doesn’t always get the chance to collaborate with an established artist in the creation of the art. Lynn Boggess’ approach to the project is worthy of applause. It was a quick turnaround with Christmas fast approaching, but Lynn eagerly accepted the commission and knocked it out of the park.”

Artist Lisa Sprietsma sells piece out of the pages of American Art Collector
Lisa Sprietsma’s painting Lemon Tower was featured in the January 2022 issue in our monthly Artist Focus features.

“My husband and I purchased Lemon Tower when we were in Bisbee over Easter weekend,” say Tempe, Arizona, collectors Chris and Emily Mause, “We absolutely love the painting and can’t stop looking at it. It brings me such joy to have it hanging in our home in Tempe. We look forward to following Lisa’s career and work for years to come.”

Owner and curator of Belleza Fine Art Gallery in Bisbee, Arizona, Lou Anne Sterbick-Nelson, says “Not a day goes by when multiple visiting art lovers don’t comment on how impressed they are with Lisa’s avant-garde pieces. We are thrilled and honored to have her in our gallery. A great piece of art tells a story and invites you to see things differently. Lisa’s work does both.”

Gross McCleaf Gallery sells two large-format Scott Noel paintings to local collector
In late 2022, Gross McCleaf sold two enormous Scott Noel paintings to a new client who had recently moved into a historic Philadelphia residence. “It’s the perfect setup for large-scale works,” says assistant gallery director Morgan Hobbs. “Through a number of consultations and works borrowed on approval, the client identified an interest in levitation—people and objects floating in space. In the end, they selected two incredible Scott Noel paintings.”

Eurydice is perhaps my most theatrical figure painting to date and an effort to put all my pictorial drives to work in a single image,” says Noel. “When the clients became interested in Eurydice and decided to add it to their collection, it was a fulfillment of my hopes for such an outlandish picture. For many years, I’ve made public paintings without being sure there was a public to receive them. They were moved by Eurydice’s flying women and made a place for them in their home. When I saw the painting in their beautiful, naturally lit first-floor room, I felt the image and its scale was conceived specifically for them.”
